VI.5.10 Pompeii. 14th January 1809. Finding of Festus cum Torquato mosaic.
According to Fiorelli -
“We have worked near to the usual peristyle, and lifted earth from an entrance, that was on the west part of the peristyle: discovering this, we have found the decorated mosaic floor, which formed a painting (2.37m x 0.99m) (9 pal. long, and 3.3/4 pal. wide) enclosed by a black band, showing a man in a short tunic……..”

According to Jashemski, when excavated in 1809 the peristyle area was found in a ruined state.
Today, the columns on the north and south are joined by a low wall which has a planting space on top.
The low wall on the east side has been restored without a planting space.
The entire house was found in such a ruined state it was nearly impossible to know how the rooms were connected.
